Why 237?
For years, if you asked anyone how to get from Nairobi to Thika, the answer was the same: “chukua 237.” Route 237 was more than a matatu number. Itit was the way home. It meant you belonged here.
Maina took that name because it says exactly what he believes an MCA should be: the one who makes sure the route keeps running: that people get where they need to go, that nobody is left at the stage, and that the journey belongs to the passengers, not the driver.
His Record
2015 → today
In 2015, Maina and a group of Thika traders started a table-banking group. Ten years of patience later, on 16 December 2025, it became ROKEA Savings & Credit Co-operative Society Ltd, registration CS/31397: audited, digital, and run by an elected board. Members chose Maina as its first Chairperson.
First-year target: 50 members. Reached: 97, 194% of target.

2019 → today
In 2019, Maina took over a church fellowship that kept no records, had no budget, and met under trees. Two terms later: every remittance banked, allowances paid only to members present, and no money moved without two signatures: Chairman and Treasurer.

When Inooro TV needs the Thika street view on matatu stage problems, on the towing of ordinary people’s vehicles, on public funds and the Infrastructure Fund, the cameras come to Maina. Years of appearances, always on the side of the trader and the resident, in the language of home.

Community
Since 2018: kit and training materials for local football teams, school fees for needy children, and mobilised community support for families facing hospital bills, including sponsoring a girl’s school fees through the children’s home outreach in 2025. Quiet work, years before any campaign.

What He Believes
A handout helps you today. A system helps your children.
A streetlight is a thing you were given. A SACCO is a thing you own. Maina’s whole record is the second kind: institutions with rules, records, audits and members: things that keep working whether or not he is in the room.
That is what he wants Township Ward to be: a ward you can check, not a ward you have to trust.
The ticket
Maina237 is the DCP candidate for Thika Township Ward in 2027.
The party’s slogan is Skiza Wakenya: listen to Kenyans. That is a reasonable thing to ask of a party, and a harder thing to ask of a ward representative, because in a ward the people you are listening to already know where you live.
